There is power and truth when art is honest.
My Artist Statement
I have always been an emotional person who has worn her heart on her sleeve. Abstract Expressionism suits my personality perfectly! I love putting my emotions on the canvas with vibrant colors, crazy marks and bumpy-lumpy textures. Even though I’m pretty shy, I have found a sense of liberation being vulnerable and overcoming some obstacles that have plagued me due to a severe hearing loss from birth.
My process is intuitive, meaning I just go with my gut for everything!! The colors are chosen just before I go to the canvas, the music I play while painting fits my mood and energy of the day and I let it all flow out my arms using tools that range from (boring) brushes, scrapers, palette knives, twigs, kitchen tools, sponges, shop towels — whatever!!!
Hopefully, we will make a connection as you view my most authentic self displayed in my works.

Art has been a life long journey . . .
As a lifelong creative I’ve dabbled in a myriad of art forms and crafts both physical and digital. I have taken more classes and workshops both here in the states and abroad than I can count. I learned the art principles of good design, value and color from a wonderful assortment of art mentors.
My painting journey transitioned from abstracted representational work to purely abstract expressionism a few years ago. I find that I just don’t have the patience for realistic, representational drawing or painting. I sure admire those artists who do!
My medium is acrylic paint since my impatience would go crazy waiting for oil paints to dry. I actually love the ability acrylic gives me to paint layers and layers of paint to achieve depth and texture. Color plays a huge role in my process. After meditating and/or journaling I intuitively select the colors that move me in the moment. Once the colors are selected the fun really begins! I love the process of mixing the colors together in a way that allows them to work together on the painting. It takes a while but I love the surprises that happen. It’s always exciting .
I tend to paint fast with music blaring, paint flying and dripping colors all in a spirit of play and experimentation. I try to stay in this stage as long as possible. I build many layers on a painting and can even change color palettes between layers. A rich history develops and some amazing “mistakes” can peek out from beneath. I generally work on a series of canvases at a time. I love tools and a wide assortment that can make interesting marks. It is unpredictable and never begins with an intention other than to be real and honest.
I have found visibility, power and strength through my art which is an awesome aspect of it. Even better -- art can make a connection between myself and the viewer.
Amazing!
